And on top of that, it doesn't even work if you open Steam using the offline mode. So that logic is very flawed and again, does a lot more harm than it does good. And they won't buy the game and it's DLC's just for the mod. If somebody who is a pirate got to your mod's page/attempted to make it work, they already have the game pirated on their computers. And quite frankly, it's not a modder's job to "prevent pirating". In my opinion, it does more harm than good. It just doesn't make sense to me why doesn't it just release without that restriction in the beginning. And I don't think that's fair, who cares about pirates if it's gonna harm the legitimate game owners? People are always gonna do other versions of the mod on sketchy websites. So you prevented the pirates from using the mod at the cost of preventing the legitimate Origin game owners as well? Many of us use EA Access which is a monthly subscription to get a lot of games on there since that tends to be more on the "budget". Also, the binaries I grabbed are from the Workshop, so it's the exact same mod running on the exact same game, just with a different launcher which doesn't matter. Hello! I just want to tell you that your mod is amazing, but I'm still curious about the reasoning behind that restriction. Will be glad to answer any of your questions! There are already "strange" versions of Real Time even on Steam Workshop and generally on the Web published by those "cool hack0rz" that think they are rebels and must "fight the system". Again, the source code is free, change it. My tiny restriction is in no way a DRM or something. The game developers invested their time and they need to buy food and upkeep their families. Can't program? Ask a friend.Īnd sure, this little restriction indeed helps a little bit against pirating the game. If you don't like something in the mod, then grab your copy of the code, make changes, build your own binaries, run the mod. However, the source code of the mod is free and available under the MIT license. I didn't publish the mod binaries anywhere else, neither on Origin Workshop (if there is one - no idea, sorry), nor on a publicly available file share. Thus, it is supposed to run only on those game installations that obtained the mod via Steam Workshop. To make it crystal clear: the mod is published in binary form on Steam Workshop.
